چکیده

Supply fan takes up to 30% of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems’ in-building energy consumption. Since the fan power consumption is a cube function of the mass flow rate of supply air, it is thus possible to reduce the energy consumption significantly by elongating and scheduling the pre-cooling processes. To handle the computational complexity raised for large scale buildings, two distributed consensus-like scheduling algorithms are proposed in this paper. Simulation studies indicate higher energy efficiency compared to uncoordinated pre-cooling processes; the computation is faster than centralized optimization, although with performance sacrifice.

ABSTRACT TEMPLATE FOR ASim 2012

Almost half of the total energy used in the U.S. buildings is consumed by heating, ventilation and air conditionings (HVAC) according to EIA statistics. Among various driving factors to energy performance of building, operations and maintenance play a significant role. Many researches have been done to look at design efficiencies and operational controls for improving energy performance of buil...

A Multi-Sensor Based Occupancy Estimation Model for Supporting Demand Driven HVAC Operations

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) is a major energy consumer in buildings, and. implementing demand driven HVAC operations is a way to reduce HVAC related energy consumption. This relies on the availability of occupancy information, which determines peak/off-hour modes that impact cooling/heating loads of HVAC systems. This research proposes an occupancy estimation model that is...

Predictive control of multizone heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems in non-residential buildings

In France, buildings account for a large part of the energy consumption and carbon emissions. Both are mainly due to Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) systems. Because older, oversized or poorly maintained systems may be using more energy and costing more to operate than necessary, new management approaches are needed. In addition, energy efficiency can be improved in central hea...
